ABOUT ME

Sylvain Barrès, born in 1995 in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, is the Solo flute of the Komische Oper in Berlin since 2024.

He began his music education at the conservatory in Brive-la-Gaillarde before continuing his studies at the Conservatoire de Toulouse and then the Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison under Pascale Feuvrier.
In 2015, he entered the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin, studying with Silvia Careddu, Matthieu Gauci-Ancelin, Thomas Beyer, Egor Egorkin, and Renate Greiss-Armin.

Sylvain Barrès has participated in various international competitions, including the International ARD Competition in Munich, Geneva Competition. In 2021, he won first prize at the Dutch Flute Competition in the Netherlands.

Since 2024, he is the Solo Flute of the Komische Oper Berlin. He is also regularly invited to perform as Solo Flute with other orchestras like the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Staatsoper Hamburg…
